Tree Octopus Video

When I first saw this video and the title I thought this must be a hoax, How could a octopus, a water dwelling creature live in a tree? It was at odds with what my knowledge of the world was telling me. Then, after I watched the video for a few seconds I questioned my initial judgment. This was probably due to the official/authoratitive voice of the narrator, the terms used and the quality of the visual images. It is easy to see how with the added features of layout, references to habitat, endangered species,.org etc students can easily be duped.
It is apparent that critical literacy skills:- are required to productively and safely navigate the digital world, that these skills are not intuitively developed and need to be taught to students, and that teachers need to be equipped to do so.
